No 113. Westminster Bridge BACK

View from Lambeth Bridge looking downstream towards the Houses of Parliament.

The current bridge was opened in 1862 and is painted green after the benches in the House of Commons (Lambeth bridge is painted red after the Lord’s benches).   The view from here towards the City was the inspiration for one of William Wordsworth’s most famous poems,  it is also now the oldest bridge across the Thames in London.   The south side of the bridge is dominated by the popular attraction of the London Eye and the walkway continues to Lambeth Pier which is a busy starting point for sightseeing boats.
