No 137. Hampton Court Bridge

View from downstream on Surrey side.

This bridge was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and built in 1933 to link Hampton Court station with the palace on the north side of the river.   This famous palace with its many attractions was built by Cardinal Wolsey and was subsequently commandeered by Henry VIII.

Access at that time would mostly have been by water and a regular ferry service still operates between Hampton Court & Kingston- upon- Thames.
