No 155. Summerleaze Footbridge

This bridge was built in 1992  and is a single span of  steel with central height of 24’0”.   It was built by Summerleaze Ltd, who are a long established local company involved in gravel extraction and other environmental issues connected with the Thames.   To celebrate their 50 years in business they have constructed this bridge across the river at Dorney Reach.   The beautiful Tudor house of Dorney Manor is close by and the area is mentioned in the Domesay Book.   The gardener at this house in the time of Charles II was named John Rose and he is famed as the first person in England to grow a pineapple.   The local hostelry is naturally called ‘The Pineapple’
