No 177. Winterbrook Bridge

This bridge was constructed in 1993 to carry the A4130 around Wallingford and to relieve the traffic on Wallingford’s single track bridge. The Thames here is a very quiet and peaceful river as it does not pass close to any settlements until reaching Wallingford. This area is particularly rich in bronze age finds and the construction of the bridge allowed archaeologists to excavate remains of Grim’s Ditch which dates from the Iron Age.
