No 108. Millennium Bridge

View from downstream on City side.

Designed by Sir Norman Foster (now Lord Foster) and built to mark the Millennium, this bridge forms a pedestrian link between the City of London near St Paul’s Cathedral to the Tate Modern Gallery and other places of interest at Bankside.   Due to its innovative construction it represents a ‘Blade of Light’ across the river.   The slenderness of the bridge created teething problems but the ‘wobble’ was soon corrected and the technology developed during this process has since been used world-wide.
