No 190. Donnington Road Bridge

This bridge carries the road from New Hinksey to Iffley and is situated a short distance upstream from Iffley lock and the famous Isis Tavern.   This stretch of the river is known as ‘Isis’ a name which is believed to date from Roman times when the river was known as Thamesis, it is also the name of the second Oxford rowing eight in the annual boat race, which traditionally competes against ‘Goldie’ from Cambridge.   The crews from many colleges can often be seen training on this part of the river.
